JURY DUTY

I had to go for jury duty selection today. Got lucky ( you could say) and did not get picked. 50 people reported this morning, 14 were asked to come up front to the jury chairs and both atty's drilled them for over an hours before we took a break. After coming back into the court room the same 14 returned to their chairs and continued questioning. I was not one of these 14. After about another hour we were taken into a side room and them another group of 14 were called, again my name was not called again. They came back and another group of 14 went. (Now during this time keep in mind that 50 people minus 14 are all in one little small room, and we do not have a clue who each other are. It was really interesting watching everyone in the room as to what people do when they do not know each other.)

Back to the court, that group comes back and they finally call me and two other people. I found it interesting that they only called three people this time instead of 14. So when we were brought back into the court room, we were told that the jury selections was completed but they needed one extra person as an alternate. The three of us were questioned by the atty's and one of the questions asked was do you know the defendant, arresting officer or someone from the list of witnesses. I responded yes, I know a witness on the list. How do I know this person? He happens to our local chef of police, I went to high school with him and he provides security at the local high school events that Kelsey goes to. And for the next 15 to 20 minutes (seems liked forever) all the questions were directed toward me. You can say I was in the hot seat. After all this, we were taken back to the little room on the side and asked to sit and wait. Let me tell you sit and wait is the key here. a lot of sitting and waiting!!!!! So after all this a clerk came in and said the following name were free to go and my name was called.

Disappointed you can say, I would have really like to stay and try my hand at jury duty. I wanted to hear the fact about the case.

Mike was the lucky one, his jury duty was two weeks ago and after his sections process he was selected and was even elected jury formen for trial. Oh well, there is alway next time.
